Short on time? Here are our recommendations

We don't think there is a single "best" tool for AI presentations. The best AI presentation maker depends on where you want to use it, how you will use it, and what types of presentations you want to create.

Here are our favorite AI presentation makers based on what type of presentation creator you are and where you would like to create your presentations.

Plus AI is the best for users who want to create native presentations in PowerPoint or Google Slides. Canva is the best AI tool for making photo-rich, creative presentations. And Beautiful.ai is the most fully-featured PowerPoint alternative.

Best AI for PowerPoint: Plus AI

If you already make presentations in PowerPoint, it's probably a non-starter to adopt a new presentation platform (and move all of your clients and coworkers with you) just to use AI.

There are a handful of different tools for creating AI PowerPoint slides, but the two most popular options are Copilot for PowerPoint and Plus AI.

In our testing, Plus AI performed significantly better than Copilot for PowerPoint. It wrote higher quality text, there was a greater variety in slide types and layouts, and the menu-based user interface was much easier to use than the Copilot chat box.

No support for AI-generated charts or tables

Plus AI is an add-in for PowerPoint that enables users to create new slide decks, edit existing presentations, or reformat slides using AI. To install Plus AI, users click on the Add-Ins menu in PowerPoint and add it as a sidebar.

Using Plus AI is intuitive, and the product is built for people who are familiar with PowerPoint. After Plus AI creates slides, it provides "tips" on each slide with suggestions on how to improve the content. The slides Plus creates are all standard PowerPoint slides, so they can be edited like a normal presentation.

Through our testing, we found that Plus AI created the best presentations for "professional" use cases like work, academic presentations, and for educational use cases. Compared to other AI tools, the area where Plus fell behind was creating AI-generated images and charts, which may be a drawback for certain types of presentations.

AI often responds with "I'm not able to do that"

Check Red Icon - Affiliate X Webflow Template

No templates or themes

Copilot is the name of Microsoft's AI chatbot, which competes with products such as ChatGPT and Gemini. While Microsoft showed several great use cases for Copilot for PowerPoint in their early demo videos (e.g., convert this Word doc into a PowerPoint), many of these features don't work yet, and the product still feels like a "beta" release.

For example, if you ask Copilot to edit an existing slide (rewrite or reformat), it will think for a few seconds and then respond with "I'm not able to do that." With the chatbot-style interface, it's unclear exactly what the product can actually do, so it's on the user to experiment and figure out what works and what doesn't.

The other main drawback of Copilot for PowerPoint is the quality of the AI and design. Copilot does not offer templates or themes, and every AI-generated slide follows the same format of an image with 2-3 paragraphs. This would be okay for a basic school presentation, but it will not look like a typical work presentation.

Check Red Icon - Affiliate X Webflow Template

Check Red Icon - Affiliate X Webflow Template

More time-consuming than using an AI presentation maker

ChatGPT cannot create PowerPoint presentations directly. Normally, it's actually better to use ChatGPT to brainstorm presentation ideas or put together a presentation outline with notes on each slide and its contents.

However, if you need a basic PowerPoint, and you only have a ChatGPT subscription, one workaround is to ask ChatGPT to write VBA code to generate a PowerPoint deck. After generating the code, you can run it in PowerPoint and get a set of basic but usable slides.

This will result in a basic presentation, but if you just need some bullet points, and you were going to spend time finding images and graphs to support your presentation anyway, it might be a good start.

Best AI for creative presentations: Canva

If you're using AI to create non-traditional "presentations" or looking for more aesthetic ways to present information, create websites, or design infographics and other types of content, there are several AI tools that could meet your needs.

One of the most popular tools that works for a variety of creative outputs is Canva. They have a powerful, but easy to use, tool that allows users to create a variety of different asset types, including presentations. There are also tools like Visme, Gamma, Simplified, and others that focus on different types of content production.

Here are examples of each, along with our assessments of their strengths and weaknesses.

Unfamiliar interface for first-time users

Canva is best known as an online design tool that can help customers create social media ads, logos, and other types of marketing materials. Over the last few years, they have made a large investment in other types of content editing, including presentations.

Canva allows you to create new presentations using one of their many templates, OR you can start with their AI presentation generator. We found their AI presentations were light on high-quality text content but looked quite nice from a design perspective because of the heavy focus on nice fonts and images.

If you are already familiar with Canva, the AI presentation generator can give you a great start on a new presentation, and you can use Canva's powerful editing tools to customize them however you'd like. If you aren't as familiar with Canva, it can still be a great starting point, but there will be a learning curve to get up to speed on all of Canva's functionalities.

Check Red Icon - Affiliate X Webflow Template

Expensive relative to competitors

Visme looks somewhat similar to Canva, but it has a more constrained set of document types that users can create. It focuses on presentations, documents, and infographics, and it is less focused on marketing assets like social media ads.

Visme's AI presentation offering is comparable to Canva, with lower-quality AI and a focus on offering a large library of templates and stock assets. Similar to Canva, we found that Visme AI generated attractive title slides and section dividers, but it did not do a good job on content-heavy slides.

In our testing, we found that we could get similar outputs to Visme using Canva, so we would go with the lower-priced option (i.e., Canva) that also has a broader set of features for content creation.

Cons

Fine-grained editing is not as easy as design-focused tools

Gamma is a different type of AI generator that can generate "cards" that function as slides. Each card is similar to a slide layout, but it can stretch and is more flexible than a traditional slide with a fixed aspect ratio.

The AI generation features in Gamma are more advanced than products like Visme and Canva, and closer to what you would see in a product like Plus AI. It has the ability to create different layouts and use AI to fill in the content based on the different slide layouts.

Because Gamma has a more flexible layout than traditional slides, Gamma presentations are easier to view in different places like on a mobile device or a website. One of Gamma's most popular features is the ability to publish a Gamma presentation as a website.

Simplified is another "all-in-one" tool focused on creative content generation. It offers the ability to create videos, create designs, post social media content, and create presentations with AI.

As with the other all-in-one tools, the quality of AI presentations is lacking, but if you are already familiar with the Simplified app, it could be a good fit for you or your company.

Compared to the alternatives, we prefer Canva's presentation editor and AI features because of the higher-quality app and deeper template libraries and features for individual use cases.

Check Red Icon - Affiliate X Webflow Template

Low-quality AI outputs

Sendsteps began as a tool for presenters to create interactive presentations with audience engagement through questions as polls. As the AI wave grew, they started to build more AI products, and now they have an AI presentation maker and an AI quiz maker as well.

While this is an interesting portfolio of products, they are somewhat disconnected because the presentations need to be exported in order to present in PowerPoint, and the interactive features require you to convert PowerPoint slides to screenshots for the polling to work.

If you're looking for a tool to make polls and quizzes for a presentation, Sendsteps is worth trying, but if you're looking for AI features, we'd recommend looking elsewhere.

Tome began as a "new storytelling format" which promised to revolutionize presentations with flexible layouts and mobile formats. Shortly after the launch of ChatGPT, Tome released an AI presentation app that went viral and signed up millions of students and educators.

Over this time period, they developed a unique visual style for their presentations or "tomes" which could be published as presentations or standalone websites, similar to Gamma.

However, in August 2024, Tome announced they would be deprioritizing presentations in favor of helping enterprise sales teams leverage AI to improve their sales operations.

Best PowerPoint alternative AI: Beautiful.ai

If you are not tied down to Google Slides or PowerPoint, and you are still trying to make presentations (vs. websites or other types of assets), you have more flexibility in your software choices.

The software options in this category typically allow more fully-featured theming and branding customization and allow users to build a variety of presentations for work and school through an online interface.

Beautiful.ai, for example, focuses on premium users with more expensive plans and sells customers on the ability to generate on-brand content that is easier to edit than PowerPoint slides. Pitch.com is another alternative to PowerPoint that creates more styled presentations. Prezi offers a different type of presentation that helps users see information in a new light.

Beautiful.ai is one of the oldest AI presentation products on this list. Originally founded in 2016, the product was meant to be an easier way to build presentations that required less formatting and fine-tuning of slides.

The way Beautiful.ai works is by providing users with a library of pre-configured slide types that can automatically rearrange themselves as content is added or removed to the slides. With the advent of AI, Beautiful.ai added their "DesignerBot" AI tool which can help generate the content for each of the supported slide types.

Overall, Beautiful.ai is a strong contender for a PowerPoint replacement for teams who want to provide everyone with an easy-to-use presentation creator that creates on-brand content. The only downsides for most users are potential issues when converting back to PowerPoint and the ability to make smaller edits to slides.

Pitch.com was founded in 2018 and raised nearly $140M venture capital funding to build an alternative to PowerPoint that was web-based and easier to use. In 2024, they decided to return that money to investors, shrink their team, and try to build a profitable business.

Over the last few years, they invested heavily in AI features to compete with other AI presentation companies in the market, but with the narrower focus in 2024, they have returned to focusing on building a great PowerPoint-alternative. While they still offer an AI presentation maker, they focus on marketing tools like beautiful templates, simple editing, and the ability to share presentations and view analytics on decks.

Compared to Beautiful.ai, we think Pitch.com has a more modern, refined interface, but lower quality AI outputs. If you try both tools, it should be easy to pick the one that you would rather use.

Decktopus is an online presentation platform that helps customers make slides using a blend of template-based design tools and AI content creation.

The Decktopus interface is fairly intuitive and follows the Canva style design app. There is also a library of presentation templates for different industries and use cases.

The AI-powered content creation is where Decktopus falls a bit short. While it's a helpful tool for creating a first draft of the content, the quality of AI is not very high, and for power users, it's probably easier to create a presentation in PowerPoint or Google Slides first.

The setup process for a Prezi AI presentation is easy enough. You can enter a basic topic, choose the text style, pick the slideshow length, and select the amount of details. You can also customize the color palette, background, and other elements while you see the preview update.

What’s a little off-putting about the interface is when you create your first presentation and move to each slide. On both the preview and in the editor, selecting another slide uses a zoom animation that bounces the screen around a bit too much.

Overall, Prezi produces a nice final product, and the AI assistance is super helpful. From business presentations to educational ones, Prezi came through with each test. It offers the features you’d expect for adding and editing text, media, and shapes, provides an easy-to-use drag-and drop, and lets you present directly from the web application.

Check Red Icon - Affiliate X Webflow Template

Check Red Icon - Affiliate X Webflow Template

If you want a pitch deck for your business, SlideBean offers an AI-generated product. Unfortunately, it can only create pitch decks --- no other presentation types. The AI results are below average when entering a descriptive prompt but can be more detailed and robust if using a company URL instead.

The presentation follows a basic template and you cannot choose a design or other details upon creation. You can, however, pick a different template and layout when you add a new slide in the editor. The initial template inserts images that appear to be placeholders.

The design tools in the editor are a bit too simple, and basic functions like picking a new font style aren’t intuitive. However, there is a handy option to automatically regenerate slide layouts after adding elements which is probably the best feature.

SlidesGo is a popular presentation template site that also offers an AI tool. The SlidesGo AI presentation maker starts gives you the basics of a slideshow. Add the topic, select a writing tone, language, and number of slides, and finish by picking a style and template.

You’ll then head to the editor to customize your presentation. The interface looks a lot like similar applications, specifically Canva. That being said, it is intuitive, provides tool tips, lets you move easily between your slides, and allows you to swap out templates and layouts.

The results from the AI prompt are decent but feel minimal compared to other tools. If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to create an AI-generated presentation for free, SlidesGo is a good way to go. Wonderslide’s AI presentation maker seems a bit confusing at first. With similar tools, you enter a topic, select a few options, choose a design, and you’re on your way. Wonderslide works differently in that you create one slide at a time and the AI tool adds the design elements.

Another option is to use an existing PowerPoint slideshow, rather than to start from scratch, but this feels counterproductive.

Best AI for Google Slides: Plus AI

Many people who create presentations for business, education, personal, and charitable organizations choose Google Slides. Because of its low cost, ease of use, and features, it ranks at the top with its main competitor Microsoft PowerPoint.

By using AI with Google Slides, you have a quick and easy method for building engaging and attractive slideshows in just minutes. Popular AI tools for Google Slides include Gemini, Google’s own AI generator, and Plus AI, a full-featured third-party add-on.

After using all of the tools you see below; you’ll find that Plus AI is the standout amongst its competition. You receive complete presentations with excellent content and beautiful designs. Additionally, Plus AI’s editing tools are intuitive and provide quality results.

No support for AI-generated charts or tables

In addition to PowerPoint, Plus AI offers an add on for Google Slides that enables users to create new slide decks and edit existing presentations using AI. To install Plus AI, users click on the Extensions menu in Google Slides and install the Plus add on.

Plus AI should be intuitive to users who are familiar with Google Slides. Plus AI creates native Google Slides content, so they are easy to edit and share. Plus also provides "tips" on each slide with suggestions on how to improve the content.

During our testing, we found that Plus AI created the best presentations for "professional" use presentations at work and school. Broadly, compared to other AI tools, the area where Plus fell behind was on AI-generated images and free-form layouts, which may be a drawback for certain presentation styles.

Gemini review

Cons

Does not create full presentations

Limited AI outputs

No design, layout, or style selection

Today, you can only use Gemini to create individual slides, and it does not work to create an entire presentation (which seems like it should be a basic feature for an AI presentation maker). In addition, the slide output quality is pretty low relative to other AI tools.

The layouts and designs are always the same with a title, a bulleted list, and an image for each slide. You do have the option to regenerate a slide before inserting it into your presentation which is more efficient than undoing and redoing like with some tools.

If you only need a slide or two (or if you already have a Gemini subscription for work or personal use), Gemini for Google Slides could be useful. But for a complete AI presentation maker, you’re better off with a different option.

SlidesAI is a Google Slides extension that offers a simple setup process. It walks you through how you’d like to add content such as using an existing document, pasting text, entering a topic and description, or inserting a web link. You can then choose the presentation type and number of slides, add a logo, and pick the design. Overall, it’s an easy way to create a slideshow.

The result of the initial AI-generated presentation may depend on your topic, but the slides seem a little lean on content especially for basic subjects where many details are widely available. The completed slide layouts and styles are also too similar to each other without much variation. For example, in the image above, it uses the same five shape diagram three times in a row.

If you’re in a hurry or need a simple presentation, SlidesAI could be a good option. However, its final product is a bit narrow for lengthy or professional slideshows.

No easy way to choose editing tools (menu only)

In contrast to other Google Slides extensions, MagicSlides only uses a sidebar interface. You pick a presentation type like pitch deck, education, or client proposal. Or you can insert your text and provide extra details using a source like a URL.

The AI results are average with details and useful information for common topics. By default, slide layouts and designs are always the same if you choose a bullet style during initial setup. But, if you pick a custom setup, you can select the type for each slide after the tool generates the outline, which is a better way to go.

MagicSlides also provides editing tools like inserting a new slide or remixing a current one, but you can’t easily switch between the editing options in the sidebar. Overall, MagicSlides is a quality AI presentation maker. It provides multiple slideshow types, good AI outputs, decent editing options, and a variety of slide layouts.

Conclusion

There are (literally) dozens of different options for AI presentation makers to choose from, so it can be overwhelming to figure out which one is best for you. We'd recommend making your decision with this process:

  • Decide if you want to create presentations using PowerPoint, Google Slides, or another platform
  • Look at the example outputs to determine what quality bar you'd like to meet
  • Narrow down the remaining options based on your willingness to pay

Nearly every option on this list has a free option or a free trial, so try out a couple of different apps, and you will quickly get a sense of the differences between tools. Hopefully this guide helps you narrow down your list.
